On January 1, 1996, the Korean telecommunication industry succeeded in commercializing code division multiple access (CDMA) technology for the first time in the world. Unlike the analogue system, which uses separate frequency bands or “channels” for each call, CDMA is a digital communication technique that converts analog voice into digital signals and several digital codes. Thus, the CDMA method offers greater privacy and enhanced call quality.
The Samsung SCH-100, developed by Samsung Electronics, is a mobile phone handset that adopted the CDMA method. The size of the device is 15.3 × 5.1 × 2.5 cm, and the weight is 173g. It adopted an audio amplifier chip to provide crystal-clear voice quality and employed a dual antenna system to deliver perfect data reception. The Samsung SCH-100, by adopting CDMA technology, is the handset that ushered in the new era of second-generation mobile telecommunication. |
